Europeana opens up new horizons by bringing together millions of digital resources from European archives, museums, libraries and audio-visual collections into a single access point.
Europeana is developing practical and user-defined tools to explore and share content in a multilingual environment. These tools will enable users to easily combine or compare related material in different countries – for example, the items, images, records and texts relating to the Roman Empire, the Vikings or the Renaissance.
A lot of effort has been put into building Europeana, the future European Digital Library, and the European Commission has made an enormous contribution through the eContentplus programme with projects such as the EDLproject, which was completed in February 2008, as well as EDLnet and TELplus, among others. All these European Commission co-funded programmes in which our Library participates contribute for the most part to the development of EUROPEANA, which continues to grow from when it was first launched in 2008 through co-operation projects such as Europeana V.1., in operation since February 2009 to create an operational service to address any problems that arise in the implementation and operation of the European Digital Library (Europeana).
